Wondering how to negotiate a house price? We can help. Here’s Cat King with Phil Spencer’s top tips, including what not to do.
We have more information on this topic here:
Don’t Ignore Your Research
Never underestimate the importance of knowing vital, location-specific details about a particular property.
Getting one of Phil Spencer’s property reports beforehand can tell you everything you need to know, including sale prices for similar properties in the area. Get yours here:
Don’t Ignore the Sale Background
You don’t want to end up paying more than you should for your new home.
Ask questions such as: ‘How long has the property been on the market?’
Assume the First Offer You Make Will Be Rejected
This will allow you to determine the reaction of the seller. Don’t show your hand when it comes to haggling!
Ask the seller to make a counter offer and negotiate on that.
Always Submit Your Offer in Writing
This will help avoid any misunderstandings or discrepancies. Write the figure both in numbers and words to reduce the risk of miscommunication.

Avoid Offering Over the Asking Price
If your first offer is rejected, find out why. Don’t simply increase your offer if you’re just bidding against yourself.
