Dr William Hynes' talk at Flooding in Ireland seminar.

The UCD School of Geography, Planning and Environmental Policy and UCD Earth Institute present the IRCHSS funded seminar: Flooding in Ireland: Perceptions, Preparedness and Policy. The aim of this one-day seminar is to discuss the various social factors that contribute to, and are impacted by, flooding. This includes consideration of such issues as the impact of flooding on individual’s well-being, people’s preparedness, and the appropriate policy response. These issues have received relatively little focus in an Irish context to date, although it is now recognised that a full understanding of these issues is required to properly manage flood risk, and meet the requirements of the EU Floods Directive.
