A few shots of the Irish country side in County Mayo in western Ireland by Tony Monaghan. Note the stone corral that was built by Tony. It took 11 years to gather the very heavy stones, but only took a few days to build.
As far as we know, this is the only stone corral built in the world! Also, horse have a natural aversion to the big stones, so none ever try to jump or escape.
The horses are really Connemara Ponies, first imported into Ireland by Vikings and now indigenous to western Ireland. It is thought that the Connemara was crossed with the now extinct Irish Hobby horse.
Tony now lives in St. Louis where he is a General Contractor that specializes in the arts of plaster, masonry and tuckpointing.
